5-Year-Old Dies After Pedestrian Accident
5-year-old Anna Schwalb of Superior Township has died after being hit by a car on September 26th. Schwalb had been in Ann Arbor with her family for a Rosh Hashanah celebration that night. The family was trying to cross the Geddes Avenue near Onondaga Street at about 7:45 PM. There is no traffic light or crosswalk at the spot they were crossing. A westbound vehicle stopped for the family to cross, but the driver of an eastbound car, a 23-year-old Ypsilanti woman, didn’t see them in the darkness and struck Schwalb.
Schwalb was taken to University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital, where she remained in critical condition for several days before dying on October 1. The driver of the car has not yet been ticketed or cited for the accident. Police have said they do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, but the investigation is still ongoing and it has not been determined whether or not speed was a factor.
